Welding Project

Project Overview

The purpose of this project is to identify and address the key risks to welding skills capability and capacity for the nuclear industry as it approaches a period of unparalleled growth. The objective of the project is to develop a plan comprising priority interventions that will help to resolve critical welding skills issues.

Problem Statement

There is a shortage across welding disciplines, including operators, technicians and engineers. Particular issues exist in respect of coded welders and high integrity pipe welding. Professionals routinely move between sectors, with more complex and higher integrity welder training limited.  Lack of diversity and an ageing  workforce also pose a major risk.
