Around 1,700 new workers will be needed at the Hinkley Point C (HPC) nuclear power plant project over the next 12 months.
New jobs on the project will include roles in general construction, welding, electrical and equipment installation and other supporting functions. HPC said it would continue working with colleges and training facilities in Somerset to help local people get trained up to work on the project.
The hiring figure has come from the project's latest report into its economic and social impact. It claims it has already spent £3.2bn with local businesses in the South West, which is more than twice its initial target of £1.5bn. It currently has 750 apprentices on the job, with an overall target of 1,000 across the life of the £23bn project.
